Chicago Skirmish Wargames

As a start to using more historical minis in our games of Konflikt 47,  I did a quick and simple paint job on a pack of 10 infantry and a 3-man maxim gun crew. These figures were generously provided by Lee at Gaddis Gaming for review.

My painting on these figures is very quick and simple- a green gesso base coat with an all-over dry brushed highlight. I picked out a minimum of details- faces, helmets, boots, guns and shovels.  I could have added a fair bit more detail on these, but wanted to get a quick start and see how they look with only a little effort.

The figures themselves are very nice for slightly old sculpts. Details on the figures are deep and clearly defined, so they are easy to paint. The casting is also quite good. I did not spend much time cleaning mold lines and did not find any other casting problems. I also like the variety of details on the figures. Even though they are in uniform with standard equipment, each figure has a little bit of character of its own and a unique pose. I enjoy adding variety to any army I'm working on and it is nice to do so without having to convert plastics.

For comparison, here are the Gaddis Gaming minis next to some of Warlord's metal and plastic Soviets and a Soviet figure from AE WWII.

So, you can see that Gaddis Gaming figures are a little smaller than Warlord Games figures, especially the plastics. I don't think it will make any difference in a game.
